A weird origin story
Bring Back the Weird began as a rebellion — a love letter to Austin’s disappearing weirdness.
What started as Kendra’s idea to bridge Austin’s creative and tech scenes through digital art inspired by old Austin culture quickly grew into something much bigger. After a few chance DMs, Kendra connected with Raye’vn, Chelsea, Xani, and later Nadia — four native Austinites and one newcomer who fit right into the city’s legacy of self-expression and creative chaos.
Originally imagined as a one-day festival, BBTW evolved into a movement — a growing community that found its home in VibeHaus, where collaboration, creativity, and chaos coexist. Along the way, the crew stumbled into sustainability as a core part of their work — crafting art and props from repurposed materials and building experiences that honor both people and planet.
Today, BBTW continues to grow as a living experiment in creativity, sustainability, and belonging — a reminder that weird never dies; it just evolves.
our mission
We are a unique melting pot of creatives bringing back the weird in order to pay it forward. Honoring Austin’s old quirky culture, we amplify the makers and dreamers who keep its eclectic pulse alive. Through community building, resourceful creativity, sustainable event-making, and radical authenticity, Bring Back the Weird nurtures a culture where the weird, the wild, and the conscious thrive together.
